Young women are at risk as never before, and we as parents and leaders must be purposeful to mentor girls and set them up to win in Christ, to protect their innocence while removing any naiveté that would cause them to be heartbroken, taken advantage of, or harmed. God has beautiful plans and purposes for each of His daughters, and our mission with the Mr. Right Series is to help young women experience that reality.
Our objective is three-fold:
1) To give teens and singles three engaging novels they love to read and talk about with friends. We want them to think through critical issues and choices now, before they find themselves painfully working through them. Or, if they have already had certain experiences, we want to give them hope that there is healing for the past and a bright future ahead if they choose to pursue it.
2) To give parents and mentors effective, non-threatening tools to reinforce a Biblical worldview, present positive role models, and springboard discussions on topics that may be hard to introduce but are crucial to healthy adolescent development. Most girls are more than willing to talk about the characters’ problems and choices, and, as trust develops, will open up and talk about their own.
3) To encourage young women to pursue a relationship with God for themselves so that they make choices from their core values and from having Christ as their first love.
Every young woman deserves the chance to live a safe, happy, meaningful life as she follows her God-given dreams. Our mission with the Mr. Right Series is to provide vision and strategies to do so.
In 2000, Barbara Precourt felt a fresh burden to help young women with their choices and dreams in life, especially when it came to their dating relationships. Knowing she could mentor many more girls through a book than her current face-to-face interactions, she sat down and began writing the first novel in the Mr. Right Series, Waiting for Mr. Right. Her daughter, Lisa Raftery, also caught the vision for such a series for young women and joined the team as co-author. Three novels and a workbook later, they are reaching girls throughout the world with their message of hope and purpose in Christ.
Barbara Precourt has been married to her Mr. Right for forty-eight years, working alongside her husband in his insurance agency. Together they raised two children and presently have eight grandchildren.
Barbara's writing reflects more than forty years of Bible study and teaching. In the past, she wrote curriculum for and served as the head of her church's children's program. She has taught both premarital and parenting classes through the years and served on the board of directors of PATH (Positive Approach to Teen Health), an organization she continues to actively support. She currently serves in the women's ministry of her local church.
Over time, Barbara has mentored many young women. Now that her children are married and raising their families, she has a passion to minister to additional teens and single women.
Because her early years were marked by insecurity, confusion, and poor choices, she can relate to what many young women today are feeling. Her prayer is that the Mr. Right Series will help them to understand how much they are loved and valued by their Heavenly Father and to experience His best for them in life.
In addition to speaking to teens and women and writing for the Mr. Right Series blog, Barbara enjoys spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, reading, cooking, and biking.
Lisa Raftery has been married to her Mr. Right for twenty years. In addition to being a ministry wife and business owner, she's also a mother of four, former high school teacher, current homeschool instructor, and co-author of the Mr. Right Series. Working with teens and singles for over twenty five years, Lisa has ministered to countless women, getting to know their life stories as well as the challenges of navigating life in today's culture.
Lisa has a passion to see young women become who they were created to be, to experience the best life possible. She has collaborated extensively on the Mr. Right Series to give young women the vision and strategies to do so.
In addition to speaking to teens and women and writing for the Mr. Right Series blog, Lisa enjoys family time, youth ministry, Spanish, reading, and hitting the tennis courts with her husband.
